platonic divorce

- the dissolution of a non-sexual, non-romantic relationship; usually the dissolution of a friendship

Platonic divorces are rarely hostile and normally occur when friends drift apart either on purpose or by chance.

Platonic divorces between women are often irreversible and can never return to the 'pre-divorce' state.

Platonic divorces between men are more easily reversed. It only takes a phone call saying, "Hey bud, I got a case of beer. You wanna come over to watch the game and get hammered man??"

Currently, platonic divorces between a man and a woman are completely irreverible.

e.g. After Gwen moved to Vancouver and stopped sending even Christmas cards, she and Maria platonically divorced.

e.g. Greg platonically divorced Jane after not being invited to her wedding.

e.g. I think Lara and I will get a platonic divorce if neither of us call within the next couple months.

Friend Divorce

When you denounce a friend, or group of friends after a serious falling out. More serious than a simple argument. Usually involves some sort of betrayal from an old friend. Often leads to a cleansing of people who you realized aren't really your friends.

Divorcee: "Scott banged my girlfriend, And the crew thought it was cool"

Friend: "Oh man that sucks, do you still talk with them?"

Divorcee: "Nah man, I friend divorced the whole lot of em, the're shite in a bucket"

Friend: "and what about her?"

Divorcee: "Well let's just say we are not getting married"

divorce reform

Something that will never happen because there's no money in it.
It usually involves controversial ideas like bringing concepts of "innocent until proven guilty" and "equal treatment under the law regardless of gender" to family court. It also often involves controversial ideas like treating a marriage contract like any other contract where someone is free to exit the contract any time; but, if there isn't sufficient cause, the person exiting the contract must leave the other parties as unharmed as possible, and the person exiting without sufficient cause may face penalties for doing so.

I think it would be better if we had a system where, when one parent initiates a divorce, there is a rebuttable presumption (meaning a presumption that could be rebutted if wrong-doing can be proven) that any minor children remain with the other parent that didn't want the divorce. Scientific studies show divorce is usually very bad for kids, and this would probably greatly decrease unnecessary divorce.

Dude, you're talking about divorce reform. That will never happen.
