nu metal

A form of hard rock, that started in the early 1990s, with such bands as Korn. Contrary to popular belief, Nu Metal is not actuualy a Metal style, because it evolved from hardcore, which in turn evolved from punk, and not metal.
Nu Metal is closely related to rapcore.

Korn, Limp Bizkit, (new) In Flames, (new) Soilwork.

nu metal

A new subgenre of metal which includes bands such as Korn, Slipknot, Disturbed, and various others from the late 80's to today.

Is often bashed and heavily criticized by "true metal fans" for being "mainstream", or for having "no talent"

These guys are just introducing a new metal sound, guys. Get over it. Many people like it, and that's why it became mainstream. I might not like some of the bands, but I don't call them "fake" because of that. They're just as much metal as Metallica or Slayer are, and just because they sound different doesn't mean they suck. It sure would be boring if all bands sounded the same, don't you think?

I like all kinds of metal - power, thrash, progressive, and even nu. Here are some examples: I like Slipknot but I don't like Slayer. I like Children of Bodom but I don't like Korn.

It's still that metal I know and love, so I listen to it. If I don't like a band, I just don't listen to it. I don't come here and call them fake. If I wanted to complain, I'd at least give good reasons for my complaint.

Idiot: omg liek nu metal sukks its soo fake lol omg lizzen to real metyl liek Metallica or Slayer lol roflz

Non-Idiot: Dude, just because it's a different genre doesn't mean it's fake. Just appreciate it or shut up about it.

Nu-Metal

Nu-Metal is a hybrid genre.
It combines the heavy rock genre 'metal' with different singing styles ie rapping. A perfect example of the is 'The Truth' by Limp Bizkit. Another good example is 'Spit It Out' by Slipknot. Within these bands there is also a m'ixer' who will provide sounds that cannot be created using convential instruments. Within the convential instruments guitars are often tuned down to give 'heavier' riffs. to compliment this the drummers will use the bass drum more often (and will usually have two bas drum pedels)
Pre-Nu-Metalers often look at the new genre with disregard as it is not ture rock music.

Korn, Slipknot, Limp Bizkit and Perfect Circle are all examples of Nu-Metal music.

nu metal

Nu-metal, a term created for all those band with so wide a range that they couldnt be put into a single group. bands such as Linkin Park, Korn, Limp Bizkit, bands who could be put into labels such as rap rock, rapcore, metal, electro etc. its a wide range of music in which the different bands are nothing alike with different music styles and different goals in music. Nu-Metal is not a new label, its not a new music style, its people fuckin up bands who dont even want to be in this section

Nu Metal

A subgenre of metal that erupted in the early 90s after legendary thrash metal band Anthrax did a duet with rappers Public Enemy on their song Bring The Noize. plenty of guys liked this so as a result, many bands like Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, and KoRn were born. it is usually characterized by detuned guitars, pogoing, and extremely fast, whiteboy rapping. their are a few spinoff bands categorized as Nu Metal because it has a bad rap, such as Slipknot and Staind, but they really arent Nu Metal.
one thing to remember-SYSTEM OF A DOWN ARE NOT NU METAL, THEY ARE ALT METAL, LIKE DREAM THEATER WITH LESS SHREDDING AND MORE VOCALS.

Nu Metal is pretty cool, i can't see why it gets such a bad rap.

Nu Metal

Forget the definition... Most all of you are just hating cause if you did like "nu-metal" you would have to explain it to you narrow-minded friends and then get ur ass kicked. I am a fan of all, new and old... I dont dis a group or band or whatever just because they have a particular theme or silly antics. For the record I like and in some cases LOVE some nu metal bands... however I would agree with the lack of variety that may be present in these commerical groups. I have read most of these definitions and really think that most of you ~90% are just plain silly. I was quite amazed to not see the likes of Marilyn Manson in any of these definitions (if you can call them that) but I guess thats because hes not really metal, but neither is Linkin Park or Slipknot. As I look through my collection of music I see a large mixture of classics like Fleetwood Mac, The Eagles, and Frank Zappa which are certainly classic rock and not metal. But equally as important as the classics is the more recent stuff (recent = last 20 years) Manson Korn and SOAD fill my collection as plenifully as Metallica, Dimmu, and Children Of Bodom do. As I know most of you will reject this commentary I would like to give everyone including myself the opportunity to say, "FUCK YOU!" to all you haters. System is kewl, Slipknot can rock a stadium, Metallica can get you pumped, and Dimmu can corrupt the deepest darkest corners of your soul. They all rock for their own reasons!... And who ever said it was a shame to make a buck off ur music. If you "MetalHeads" consider your precious Slayer(Which Rocks) as tru-metal...(ie Non Corperate) then why does their latest CD cost just as much as the Slipknot album I just bought? Most of your rants are hardly cogent and have little to no conclusive value. So... for the Record; don't get me wrong... some nu metal just plain blows. Fred Durst should be skullfucked alive, shot in the kneecaps, and hung over a bridge to bleed to death for using the word "Dubs" in a song with a distorted guitar.

And now for the definition; drumroll please...

"Nu Metal is the logical transgression of the metal scene popularized during the eighties. It is simplified for easier listening and ease of performance. Its acclaimed artists are often considered talentless sellouts, oppugnants often using the rationale that exorbitant recipt of funds for a product (music-cd) constitues a lesser product."

Now that's a definition...

Okay fags... Get ur thumbs down buttons ready and vote away! HA! Losers! =D Cheers and Goodday.

Metalhead: Hi im afraid of change.

Me: Hi you need to understand that change is good. And if you can't get that through ur little (yet seemingly inpenetrable) skull of steel I put a hole in your head via this ArmourPiercingRound in my brand new M16.

Me: Capeshe!?

Metalhead: Fuck Off! Asshole!

Me: Ka-blewwie!... Aww shit what a mess.

MOTD: Are you willing to die for your nu metal antics?

nu metal

I felt it was high time someone made a definition without opinions so here goes. Nu metal is a subgenre of metal emerging in the late 90s with bands like Korn, hence the name "new metal" later changed to nu metal to define it late ron when it wasn't new anymore. Nu metal fuses several subgenres of metal(mostly death and thrash metal)with rap VERY different from rapcore(rap metal)which is simply hiphop with metal as musical backing. Notice slipknot's use of turntables another nu metal thing, heavy use of turntables and such. No nu metal band is without a keyboard and synthesizer.
A perfect example of nu metal is linkin park's faint, notice how some of the lyrics are sort of rapped but others are sung in the traditional metal way (high pitched yelling, grunts and growls etc.)
Nu metal contrary to popular belief is real metal just new...anyone who was a metalhead in the 80s probably dislikes nu metal simply because its new. Face it, adults have always frowned at their kids music. Furthermore several nu metal bands have played at ozzfest before(and who are we to question the judgement of lord ozzy?).

Slipknot(sort of), Korn, Limb Bizkit, Linkin Park (exluding minutes to midnight). Nu metal.
