Honors English

A course in which supposed honors- worthy students are placed in, when in reality half the students are just "good kids." An overwhelming amount of reading is assigned, followed by a lot of essay-writing. It doesn't matter whether the students read the books, or used sparknotes to finish the reading assignments. All that matters is that it can be stated that the students read "x" amount of books during the school year.

Honors Student A: Yo, you did the homework for English?!
Honors Student B: No, I don't think anybody did. Nobody even bothered to do sparknotes.

Honors student

a student in school who apparently can't be inattentive, get good grades, and stay in honors level classes

On the contrary to what many may believe, I know several honors students who procrastinate, don't take notes, don't listen to what the teacher is teaching, and they still get the grades to stay in honors classes. I guess Mrs. Sullivan was wrong.

Man of Honor

An honorable man; a gentleman.

A true man of honor feels humbled himself when he cannot help humbling others.

Honor Student

Often used in news reports to describe a career criminal who has gone to prison or died from gang violence or the police to make them seem more worthy of empathy.

Jamal was an honor student just turning his life around when he was killed last night while trespassing in his neighbor's house.

honors college

A more selective, cheaper, smaller, more intellectually stimulating subunit of an otherwise less selective university. Most public universities have one of these, and most of them are pretty difficult to get into; 1300+ sat, top of high school class, etc.

vigil honor

The vigil honor is the highest honor that can be bestowed apon both youth and adult members of their local order of the arrow lodge. Other than being a brotherhood member for a minimum of two years, there are no set requirements for the vigil honor. Most vigil honor recipients have dedicated a large amount of service to there chapter/lodge/section or even higher. Out of every 50 arrowmen 2 arrowmen are chosen for the vigil honor every year, meaning that if your lodge has 350 people in it that means up to 14 people may be chosen for the vigil honor. Once you have revived the vigil honor you are given a name that best describes you. This name is written in the language of lenni lanape then translated into English.

My friend joe just got his vigil honor his vigil name is "gattamen sachgagunummen" which means "one who desires to lead"
