Emo Progressive

Note: This term was seen as divisive and has been superseded by Puritopian.

Emo Progressive (or "emoprog") is a self-described liberal or progressive, often with libertarian leanings, whose political orientation is to be angry, dissatisfied and unhappy with the state of the nation at any given time, because in their view, liberal policies are not being implemented quickly or forcefully enough. They have particular contempt for Democratic presidents.

Emoprogs are ideological purists who disdain compromise and incremental change, which they see as "selling out" liberal ideas like full employment, an end to all wars, state secrets, and liberal social policy.

Emoprogs dislike Republicans but reserve their greatest disdain for Democratic presidents, whom they relentlessly attack for not meeting a set of ideological goal posts that are constantly adjusted to ensure that the president will be deemed a disappointment, "not progressive enough" or "just like a Republican" no matter what policy achievements are made.

Emoprogs routinely dismiss or ignore congress' role in making or impeding policy, believing presidents can simply "use the bully pulpit" and "fight" in order to overcome constitutional or legislative obstacles.

Emoprogs have a strong affinity for 3rd party politics as a way to punish Democratic presidents. They are especially hostile to President Obama and deem anyone who expresses a lack of ill will toward him to be "Obamabots" and enemies of liberalism.

Example1: After Eric Holder announced congress had blocked the Justice Department from trying 9/11 mastermind KSM in civilian court, social networks lit up with emo progressives complaining that President Obama had broken his campaign promise to end military tribunals. Their criticism did not mention congressional Democrats who helped block Holder.

Example2: Emoprogs dismissed healthcare reform as a failure, saying President Obama should have used the bully pulpit to achieve a single payer system, despite the fact that Sen. Harry Reid made it clear that such a plan could not pass the Senate.

progressive stack

The hierarchy of identities on the identity politics social justice Left. A product of Social Marxist intersectionality, the stack is used to determine which people are more oppressed than others based on their inherent characteristics and therefore more entitled to speak and/or have opinions on the topic at hand. The acquired characteristics that make a person a distinct individual are irrelevant.

Identities are generally ranked as privileged or oppressed in the order which follows: race (white/non-white), gender (cis/trans), sex (male/female), sexuality (hetero/LGB+), ability (able/disabled), class (upper & middle/lower and working). Religion (Christian/non-Christian) may also be a factor, depending on the circumstances.

"Occupy Wall Streetโ€™s General Assembly operates under a revolutionary 'progressive stack.โ€' A normal 'stack' means those who wish to speak get in line. A progressive stack encourages women and traditionally marginalized groups speak before men, especially white men."

As a black female, Michelle Obama is inherently oppressed by *all* white homeless men. Except, possibly, transgendered white homeless men; we're not sure about them?

Work in Progress

A state of being where your mental health isn't the best and you always self-improve, often to varying degrees. It is perfectly normal as nobody is truly perfect.

Employer: Why have you had ten jobs in a single year?

Mary: Sorry, I am a work in progress.

Progressive Rock

(Prog Rock for short)

A genre of music (60's to current) who's heyday occurred in the 1970's. Known for blending various genres (most commonly jazz and classical) into Rock music, the genre "progresses" music to try to evolve it into something more engaging than simply something to dance or sing-a-long or jam to.

While arguable, the first Prog band is technically believed by Prog fans to be the Beatles. However, the first band to play in the current sense of the word was King Crimson.

Although most bands in the genre came from the UK, many came from the US (Frank Zappa / Dream Theatre), Canada (Rush), Germany (Van Der Graaf Generator), and more (Iceland - Sigur Ros).

Prog Rock and Metal are both considered to be "guy" bands, and contrary to popular belief, they are not meant to be listened to alone, rather it's just hard to find another prog fan near you these days.

Only 20 minutes long? Woah, that's one short Progressive Rock song...
