Intersectionality

Enough with these long and overly rambly definitions. Intersectionality is a sociological concept that simply denotes how one's race, gender, and socioeconomic class is all interconnected with each other. Simple as that.

Likewise, the term can also denote how race, gender, and class are NOT separate categories, but rather is like a system of categories that are linked to one another.

What this basically means is that a person's identity, and how it may be used to discriminate against them, is multidimensional and depends on the sum of all those aspects (race, gender, class). For example, in the 1950s, the common discourse back then was that black people are being treated unfairly. But what people don't realize at the time was that black women are being treated more unfairly than black men.

So, that is what Intersectionality is in a nutshell. It does not mean anything else, and it should not mean anything else. It is not a derogatory word used to express hatred. It is not political leftist jargon. It is does not originate from Marxist thought. It is not used to express one's 'privilege' over another. So please stop attributing these irrelevant and slandering aspects to this rather insightful term!

Victor: Dang, my sociology prof gave us a super woke lecture on intersectionality.
Chad: Intersectionality? Sounds like another one of those cringey buzzwords used by feminists and SJWs
Victor: Lol, well I hate the break it to you but ur more than wrong. It's a very useful and helpful concept. You only think it's cringey because of the few bitter women who wrongfully use it as a retort in Twitter debates.
Chad: Lol whatever, idc
Victor: Then why'd you even ask???

Intersectionality

The idea that all social issues are connected on a deeper level. Intersectionality brings forth the idea that racism, sexism, transphobia, etc are connected and can't be abolished individually. To combat different types of oppression, Intersectionality states that we should all fight against it equally. In short, men need to fight for women, white women need to fight for brown women, women need to fight for trans women/trans men, Christians need to fight for Muslims, etc. Intersectionality is often linked to feminism, and sometimes wrongly confused as being radical when it is not. Intersectionality exludes SWERFS, TERFS, and "white only" feminists.

Intersectionality states that one form of oppression can be shaped by and can shape other forms of oppression. Racism, for example, can be sexualised, or women’s oppression can be racialised – and this happens in such a way that it becomes impossible to view different oppressions as separate.

Intersectionality

Cultural Marxist bullshit mainly espoused by self-loathing white leftist nutjobs and noisy minorities who live in the west and enjoy all it's benefits, whilst bashing everything it stands for. Best ignored.

Intersectionality is why I'm a useless twat and a failure in life and it's all your fault.

intersectionality

Concept used to describe ways in which shitty social constructs like -isms & -phobias are interconnected (intersectional! geddit?) and not magically separate issues.

Also used to describe how social inequality is experienced as an "intersection" of several forms of discrimination.

For instance, feminism that totally ignores racism is inevitably going to fall flat on its face, and pretending all social issues boil down to "it's all about claaaaaass!" is an exercise in brainlessness.

A transsexual black woman experiences intersectionality because she experiences both transphobia, racism, and sexism.

People who cry "you're just being divisive! these are separate issues!" are ignoring intersectionality.

"My feminism will be intersectional or it will be bullshit."

intersectionality

1. A term used in feminist discourse to mean "I may drag all my issues into every discussion".

2. A methodology of making any issue too complex to be resolved, thus keeping academic theorists in a job.

1. "MY FEMINISM WILL BE INTERSECTIONAL OR IT WILL BE BULLSHIT!" (Yes, you can Google it.)

2. Viewed synoptically, the intersectionality of the kyriarchy subsumes.

intersectionality

n. To be fucked up in more ways than one.

n. An all-you-can-eat buffet of mental illnesses and victim statuses.

n. A collect 'n trade game of psychological disorders, like a modern day Pogs or PokΓ©mon.

Like OMG, I'm just one identity badge away from getting my intersectionality index up to 10! I'm such a victimized minority underdog. Catch up with you guys at the safe space!

Intersectionalism

an ideology that encompasses racism, sexism, homophobia, xenophobia, and other isms of division, and structures them on a pyramid of hierarchy where the person who holds the most isms is allowed a greater say to the point of control or power, regardless of intellectual opposition, debate, or protest.

Intersectionalism is worse than racism.
