Think : overkill, off-putting, or so charged it becomes unexplainably fascinating or uncomfortable.
Draws from the modern idea of a “freak”—someone who’s either sexually unrestrained, socially offbeat, or mentally in their own reality. Often used to highlight asymmetry in what society finds acceptable: the same action done by different people might not hit the same, but when it’s freaked out, you know.
