An idiomatic expression which may convey one of two meanings:
1. A statement delivered as a compliment, but which contains an implied insult.
2. Damning with faint praise.
Sometimes also described as a left-handed compliment, these are sometimes delivered with obvious sarcasm or complete deadpan.
A: Wow! You're apartment looks great, especially given your poor taste and reluctance to spend money.
B: Gee thanks. You've take something friendly and turned it into an Irish compliment. Jerk.

When someone compliments an unattractive individual to make that individual feel better about themselves (actually meant to boost their self esteem) but it’s actually not true; the individual then mistakenly takes it seriously from there on out and has an inflated ego.
Example: Sarah thinks she’s hot shit since she got those breast and butt implants but she’s actually a “compliment gone wrong”.
Dave sure has been acting like a “compliment gone wrong” ever since he got those new hair plugs.
Complimenting another person, just in anticipation that they will, in turn, compliment you.

spring-roll compliment: n. a compliment suspiciously wrapped. Unaccepted compliment due to cautious distrust of someone or something.
It didn't really matter, it was a spring-roll compliment anyway
A compliment that also has a rude insult poorly disguised within it.
Upon hearing a 50/50 Compliment, you will not know whether to say "Thanks" or "Fuck you".
