This is a common plot device in the entertainment industry, in which the entertainers give some sort of wink or nod that allows the entertained to suspend disbelief of some unthinkable feat and carry on with minimal interruption.

Feeling whiney and knowing that he was partaking in the practice of Vaguebooking, Tom was sure to hang a lantern on it by adding a #Vaguebooking hash tag to his post.

The act of punishing an animal, child or employee for actions brought about by poor training, poor parenting or poor supervision when there is no retribution for the trainer, parent or supervisor who caused the issue in the first place. The phrase is derived from the hanging of Mary the elephant in Erwin, TN in 1916.

Writing Johnny up for an attitude problem they've ignored for 10 years is like hanging the elephant.

When one is being told to “hang it up” that means that you need to let it go, or move on. Also can be used in reference to one being lame and out of touch with something.

Hang It Up” also similarly refers to retirement.

Made popular in Nicki Minaj’s 2010 song ‘Roman’s Revenge’ ft. Eminem which was a diss to Lil’ Kim.

One hit wonder Silento still thinks he’s trending in 2020 with his Whip/Nae Nae crap from 2015? I think it’s fine for him to hang it up.

The ghetto version of "Netflix and chill." As in, when two people get together to fuck under the guise of watching a movie, however, neither is a subscriber to Netflix but rather to its less popular wannabe counterpart, Hulu.

Hang on a tick

A tick is the tick of a clock, meaning a very short space of time. Hang on means to wait: "Wait a minute". Informal speech.

"What do you want?"
"Hang on a tick....an apple."
