Calling oneself a hipster completely goes against the purpose of being one. A wannabe hipster also probably does not know anything about the indie kid movement during the 2000s, which is what the 30+ year old hipsters of the 2010s became.
Also, a hipster wannabe follows out-dated hipster trends such as listening to Arctic Monkeys, Fleet Foxes, Kaspian, Halsey, Marina and the Diamonds and The Blockheads, riding a fixie, shopping at American Apparel and Urban Outfitters. As such things have become part of the mainstream now. Hipster "clothing" is mainstream and trendy now. You are not a hipster.
Being a hipster would be being scene because it's unpopular and dead.

the dickheads who give real emos a bad name by either forcing themselves to listen to to emo bands they don't even like or listening to crap bands they THINK are emo. Also fake depression+ have bad hair.
Wannabe emo boys look all pathetic and have gelled-down-to-look-longer hair. Wannabe emo girls are usually really fat, will wear heartagram or Emily The Strange shit and have REALLY, REALLY long black or brown hair.
Wannabe emo kids wear: crap jeans, button-down tops which look more like school shirts than anything, crappy band tees, Heartagram tees, fake Converse, plain black shoes/trainers, plain black glasses, Emily The Strange, etc.
Alot of them also say they're bi/gay when they're NOT.
Wemo hobbies: writing 'sad' poetry, listening to 'depressing' music, self-harming, sitting in corners, crying, writing 'sad' diary entries (eg: Dear diary, today was a very regular, boring day, but because I fake depression, I'm going to say it was terrible and everything went wrong. Gotta go and self harm, bye, you're the only one who understands<3)
Wannabe emo must-haves: Emily The Strange tee, crap hair, plain black shoes/trainers, razorblades, fake blood, horn-rimmed glasses, black/grey straight-leg jeans, shitty band tees and anti-depressants. Oh yes, and the diary to write poetry and 'depressing' entries in.

A young person (usually between the ages of 12-17) who thinks they are goth, but they really have no idea what the Gothic Subculture is about. Symptoms of a "wannabe goth" usually include: way too much eyeliner, too much ugly black lipstick, a wardrobe consisting of all black clothes, stupid looking chains and/or spike collars, and a CD collection consisting mostly of Marilyn Manson, Korn, NIN, Orgy, and the like. If you are a parent and you fear that your child is a wannabe goth, have no fear, this is just a passing phase. Once your child's friends decide that it's no longer "cool" to be goth, or when they feel they have adequately pissed you off, they'll get over it.
My friends and I loath the wannabe goths at school who listen to horrible metal music and talk about suicide all day.
