Gangsta Metal

Obscure genre of music the emerged within the early 90s. Although some would consider this to be a strange combination it has been gaining popularity in recent years. However, the genre itself still remains deeply underground due to it's strange combination making it lose appeal to gangsta rap fans and metal fans.

Pioneers of this unique form of metal into Black Apocalypse, Devil's Thugz, N.N.D and Dark Heaven. The Lyrically content usually consists of street life, black opression and government politics. Although considered a mockery, satanic and a disgrace to thier race by by in the black community. Gangsta Metal isn't as satanic as the it am suggest, however, bands such as Atheist Pride have a strong view on the flaws on religion and that it is keeping the black race in slavery and opressing women and homosexuals.

Think Old Metallica or Slayer instruments, guitar solos and enegry with N.W.A or Public Enemy lyrics. Gangsta Metal has attracted many black people who find 'normal' metal to be primarily white or satanic. Gangsta Metal often have album names that would appear to be regular metal with song titles that one would expect from rap.

Subgenres of this type of music include Gangsta Thrash Metal (Black Apocolasype and Decaying Silence) Gangsta Christian Death Metal (Children of Elohim) and Gangsta Goth Metal (Abrachasyn's Ashes and Veronica's Veil)

I recommend any fans of gangsta rap and metal to check out any of the bands below.

Melodic death metal

A musical sub genre of death metal, which in turn is also a sub genre of metal as a whole. It started during the early 90's, and began to really take off by the mid 90's, when many pioneering bands of the style would release some of their best work. Many credit Carcass as the band that invented this style, and various bands from Sweden (In Flames, Dark Tranquility, At the Gates) would be credited as pioneers of the "Gothenberg sound", which came to be dominant in the genre later on.

Melodic death metal can best be described as a mixture of the melody/progression from NWOBHM and thrash metal bands, and the sheer brutality of traditional death metal. Vocals are usually growled/shrieked, but clean vocals are used as well. Lots of guitar harmonies are used, along with aggressive riffs and drumming. There is even use of acoustic guitar as well. Sheer ass-kickery at it's finest!

In the early 2000's and more recent years, this style would greatly influence many American metalcore bands. The style has continued to develop in Europe as well.

In Flames, Dark Tranquility, At the Gates, Arch Enemy, Kalmah - all great melodic death metal bands!

Internet Metal Nerd

A derogatory term, originally coined by the infamous Sargent D (of SYWH fame), used to describe elitist metalheads who only listen to bands that are currently considered to be "hip" and "underground".

The heavy metal equivalent of hipsters. Often the first people to cry "Sell-Out!" the moment a band has success of any kind. IMNs often tend to have very few friends and/or a dead end job. They mostly stick to basement dwelling and they never EVER get invited to parties.

There are two cardinal sins among IMNs:

- Diversity: If it isn't metal it can't be any good. IMNs hate people with a broad taste in music. That means that all other forms of music i.e. Jazz, Blues, Reggae/Ska, Punk (aside from a few choice Hardcore bands), Folk, Alternative, Indie, and any other genre you can name are all forbidden. Most IMNs don't seem to realize that their favorite metal bands have very strong. non-metal influences.

- Bands They Don't Like: IMNs like to think they are the be all end all music authority whether they realize it or not. With most people, mentioning a band someone dislikes will illicit a shrug. However, mentioning or expressing like for any band they hate will earn you the ire of IMNs everywhere. Prepare to be cyberbullied by basement dwellers the world over.

Metalhead: Hey bro, have you heard the new Skeletonwitch album? It fucking rips.

Internet Metal Nerd: NO!!!!! I DON'T LISTEN TO THAT MAINSTREAM BULLSHIT! Gah!

Metalhead: Woah, calm down bro.

IMN: Those guys have totally sold out now. Everybody is buying their albums, they're getting reviews in Decibel. It's absolutely sickening. They sold out after their 4-Track demo cassette.

Metalhead: -_-

IMN: I knew Skeletonwitch before it was cool.

Metal Gear Solid

Also MGS.

The latter half of the Metal Gear video game series published by Konami and produced by rockstar director Hideo Kojima. Includes Metal Gear Solid (PSOne, later remade and published on the Gamecube as Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes), Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (PS2, later rereleased with extra non-story missions on the PS2 and Xbox as Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance), and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (PS2).

The first MGS innovated a style of gameplay that would eventually lead to the explosion of the stealth genre (which would include well-noted titles such as Splinter Cell), which focused on avoiding enemies through stealth rather than engaging them in combat. MGS2 further developed the gameplay of its predecessor by adding new ways of navigating environments, as well as the ability to aim weapons in a first-person view.

All titles in the series are extremely story-heavy, and are notable for their graphic quality which is often years ahead of most other games, well-directed cutscenes, exceptional voice acting, and controversial postmodern concepts.

The series is generally regarded as one of the best ever produced in video gaming, and competes with efforts such as Ico as the most artistically relevent title to come out of the fledgeling genre.
