computer science

Computer science is the study of the storage, transformation and transfer of information. The field encompasses both the theoretical study of algorithms (including their design, efficiency and application) and the practical problems involved in implementing them in terms of computer software and hardware.
Computer science has its roots primarily in the fields of electrical engineering (i.e., electronics), mathematics and linguistics. It is still a relatively young field, mainly because it was only about a half century ago that electronics technology became sufficiently advanced to allow the construction of even primitive electronic computing devices.

In computer science, scientists apply concepts and techniques of computation, algorithms and computer design to a specific problem.

science cultist

Not to be confused with actual respectable scientists, science cultists are blindly religious fanatics who have warped the idea of scientific study into a universal scapegoat to justify their beliefs and mock anyone who may suggest otherwise.

Often highly vocal gnostic atheists on the internet, science cultists assert that current scientific consensus is always objective truth, that scientific theories are inherently true and therefore can never be questioned or improved upon in any way (regardless of new evidence), that religion/spirituality and science are 100% incompatible, and that if you disagree with or question them in any way, then you don't believe in 'science' and therefore your opinion is meaningless.

Additionally, science cultists are people who are quick to try and justify their political views with select biased political interest group funded studies. They think that highly complex, ever-changing fields involving uncountable factors such as economics, personal psychology, and future weather trends can be fully and accurately predicted through statistical models. If other studies conclude otherwise, they're nonscientific and biased... because 'science’.

Good Scientist: I'd like to set up a study on the correlation of solar activity in relation to climate change, as I question that manmade CO2 is as big of an issue as most politicians and UN scientists currently state. Perhaps other factors play a bigger role? I'd like to gather more data and see what I can discover.

Science Cultist: Manmade climate change is proven scientific FACT. If you think otherwise, you shouldn't be allowed to participate in scientific studies; you clearly don't believe in SCIENCE.

Good Scientist: I didn't say it wasn't true, I'm just questioning things and trying to conduct further experimentation as good scientists ought to do.

Science Cultist: You either accept scientific fact or you don't. You clearly don't. You probably don't believe in the theory of evolution either.

Good Scientist: You're such a science cultist.

Science Cultist: AD HOMINEM ATTACK!! You can't even logically address my argument... typical. That's because I have logic and science on my side.

tobacco science

"Science" done on behalf of an interest defending it's cash cow from overwhelming credible science that shows it is harmful or detrimental to public benefit in some way.

Science conducted by a cigarette company showing that cigarettes are safe would be "tobacco science".

Another example: Science conducted on behalf of the plastic manufacturing industry showing that BPA is a safe chemical for human consumption, when a wealth of credible independent scientific research shows otherwise

Mad Science

n; When it come to building a Frakenstein monster or a nuclear-powered fruit juicer, regular science just isn't good enough. Mad science is the up and coming field of thinking outside the box and the laws of nature to develop theories, build devices and otherwise perform scientific miracles that are, by the standards of civilized man, completely impossible.

The Frankenstein Monster, created by Doctor Victor von Frankenstein, is the textbook example of mad science at work.

pop science

a term used to describe "scientific clinincal studies" which are never published nor are they accessible to other researchers but somehow "PROVE" something really shocking and amazing; the author's conclusion usually leads to a bold statement which states that everyone and their uncle henry needs to purchase their product.

"have you seen JAMA lately?"

"heck no, it's a little too 'pop science" nowadays....."
