Put a jam band in a garage in a suburb on a Sunday night at 10:01, someone is gonna call the cops because “c’mon guys, enough is enough, already.” But, if you post flyers, charge admission, and make the jam band loud enough—they magically stop being a noise ordinance violation in Vermont, and start being Bonnaroo.

The term “Slow Jam” was created by The Chicago Defender back in 1961. Radio DJ "R Dub" made the term popular in mainstream radio; his Slow Jams show debuted in 1994 and today it can be heard on over 250 radio stations in 17 countries.
R Dub is playing Slow Jams tonight on my local radio station.
A slow jam is an umbrella term for music with R&B and Soul influences. Slow jams are commonly R&B ballads or downtempo songs. The term is most commonly reserved for soft-sounding songs with heavily emotional or romantic lyrical content.
