Lost Angels

An insider name for Los Angeles coined by Jim 'the weaz' in middle 1960's which was brought about by a realization that even angels could get lost in the smog of Los Angeles on a SMOG ALERT day.

The Barnowl Brothers left Lost Angels via Highway 101 on a roadtrip to San Freako with tickets to New Years Eve at Winterland 1969 burning holes in their pockets.

I Was Lost

What you tell a search and rescue team when you were drawn away by your child like attention span to the heart of the woods.

"Son, what are you doing staring at the sunset with those drugs in your hands?"
"I was lost"

lost weekend

A weekend lost to the bottle or other drug, often resulting in painful Mondays and the (correct) suspicion that you have a substance issue.

I came home from work to find the remnants of my lost weekend strewn around the house.

Lost In Translation

1)When something is translated into another language, and sometimes translated back into the original language, and because of differences of the languages some of the original meaning is lost.

2)Whenever someone re-does something in a new medium (for instance, a movie based on a book) and, due to differances between the mediums, some details and the original meaning is not present.

3)A movie that came out in 2003.

1)See larstait's post for a good example.

2)"Did you like the new Harry Potter movie?" asked Maria. "No," answered Sharon. "They couldn't include all the details that were in the book because then the movie would be too long. A lot of the characterization and subext was lost in translation."

3)I really liked Lost in Translation. And if you didn't, your opinion can't possibly be worth anything, you must be an idiot or a philistine. No, I didn't just imagine the subtext, it's there and it's very moving!

lost in the Souk

The desperate, seemingly hopeless, condition of finding oneself 'misplaced' in the heart of Morrocan chaos; similar to the phrase 'Bangkok has him', with a twist of abduction.

Oh, shit! There go two more lost in the Souk...didn't make it home last night; no use even lookin' for 'em now...

18 and Lost

A phonetic play on words on the NFL's New England Patriots 18-1 season. Instead of "Eighteen and One" or "Eighteen and Won", the appropriate term should be "Eighteen and Lost".

Pats Fan: "Yeah, well, the Patriots still had an amazing 18 and 1 season".

Giants Fan: "You mean '18 and lost' .... Sucka"!

Pats Fan: "I'm going to go cry now and masturbate to my Tom Brady Poster".
