The Islamic republic of Pakistan emerged on the map of the world as an independent sovereign state on 14th August 1947, as a result of the division of the former British India. It lies between 23-35 to 37- 05 north latitude and 60-50 to 77- 50 east longitude. It touches the Hindukush mountains in the north and extends from the Pamirs to the Arabian Sea. It is bounded by Iran in the west, Afghanistan in the north-west, India in the east and south east and Arabian Sea in the south. There is a common border with China alongside Gilgit and Baltistan in the north.
The total area of the country is 796,095 sq.km with a population of 130.6 million according to population census 1988. It is divided into four provinces viz. Sindh, Punjab, North West Frontier Province and Balochistan. It consists of such physical regions as a) the western offshoots of Himalayas which cover its northern and north western parts of which the highest peak K-2 rises to 8611 meters above sea level; b) the Balochistan plateau c) The Potohar Plateau and salt range and d) The Indus plain, the most fertile and densely populated area of the country. It gets its sustenance from the Indus river and its tributaries.
Climatically, Pakistan enjoys a considerable measure of variety. North and north western high mountainous ranges are extremely cold in winter while the summer months of April to September are very pleasant. The plains of the Indus valley are extremely hot in summer with a cold and dry weather in winter. The coastal strip in the South has a moderate climate. There is a general deficiency of rainfall. In the plains annual average ranges from 16 centimeters in the northern parts of lower Indus plain to 120 centimeters in the Himalayan region. Rains are monsoonic in origin and fall late in summers. Due to the rainfall and high diurnal range of temperature, humidity is comparatively low. Only the coastal strip has high humidity. The country has an agricultural economy with a network of canals irrigating a major part of its cultivated land. Wheat, cotton, rice, millet and sugar cane are the major crops. Among fruits: mangos, oranges, bananas and apples are grown in abundance in different parts of the country. The main natural resources are natural gas, coal, salt and iron. The country has an expanding industry. Cotton, Textiles, sugar, cement, and chemicals play an important role in its economy. It is fed by vast hydroelectric power.
Urdu is the national language and is used as a medium of understanding throughout the country. Pakistan is culturally divided into four bilingual provinces. Punjabi is spoken in the Punjab, Sindhi in Sindh, Pashto in NWFP, and Balochi in Balochistan. The country comprises of a vast area that was the great center of ancient civilizations of the world. Its historical sites beginning with stone-age to Twentieth Century A.D are a mirror of the life of its people who are by nature simple, virile, hospitable and hard working. Ancient sites excavated in Taxila, Harappa, and Moenjodaro speak volumes for Pakistan rich cultural background dating back to 3,000 B.C.
Saying of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammed Ali Jinnah
With determination, courage, solidarity and with the help of every citizen we shall make this state a real power. Let us work double shifts if necessary, so that we may make Pakistan a real state and a great nation.

A country with a very aware and awake civil society, a dedicated working force, a patriotic, united youth; but sadly a country where each subsequent government has been worse than the last.
A country where people are more true to each other and to their land than any other place on earth. Their patriotism is devoid of spite for other countries and full of nothing but love for the land and the people.
A soveriegn country, where everyone is free to follow thier own beliefs. A moderate, balanced country that has never been particularly religious, but has instead been defined by it's rich cultural diversity and tolerence for all kinds of beliefs and customs! Long Live Pakistan! Long live Sindh, Punjab, NWFP and Balauchistan!

Land of the Pure, where everyone actually does 'love their neighbours'. They've got their issues-such as social injustice and the most fucked up government known to modern times, but at then end of the day, as a nation they are unique! United and Patriotic, Pakistanis everywhere are proud, and the say it loud!
Also, they're good looking as hell. Pakistan Foreva!

Pakistan is a place which cannot support itself only due to two reasons:
1. feudals power over the government
2. the belief of the masses of poor that 'more children=more workers'
Feudals are the ones in gangs and can contol almost anyone. Kinda like pakistani mafia it is they who steal, kill, abuse women. There are also petty theives unrelated but that happens in every country
The second notion is the reason that pakistan is overpopulated. Which is why funds are insufficient. Why there are too many to educate.
Most claim that the islamic terrorists evolve in pakistan. That is not true. Ever since America's war in aftanistan, the afghani's have been breaching the borders and bringing there extremists into pakistan and hordes of their population as well.
Ever since Bhutto reigned and stole 90% of pakistans wealth, the nation has declined steadily. I grew up in pakistan and it isn't as pathetic as the media trys to potray. They neglect to show the educated, middle-class and higher status people and only focus on the beggars that roam the streets.
And by the way, as some of my friends have now been informed with shock (I live in Canada now) in pakistan we DO have the latest technology, we know exactly whats going on, we hate the racism and steorotypes that classify us as 'extremist muslim terrorists'. We don't have ridiculous accents, we don't live in sandy desert like arabian nights and no; we aren't all conservative, burkha wearing freaks either.

Country full of good people with a few exceptions, im british, living in london. For me pakistanis beat americans and french hands down. Pakistani's have some of the best food and drink in the world. The most romantic language (urdu). They are cleaner than the average toilet paper user because muslim showers are effective. Pakistanis are polite, reserved people with strong senses of honour and a connection with the land that almost noone has. The government under Musharraf was shit now theres a chance for them to change.
Most people cannot grasp that a non-western country which a few hardline extremists terrorise is worth visiting, they are wrong pakistan is alive and the people are like no other. Every single bache, baba, etc are worth taking time to talk to. You'll learn and feel more in 2 days in Pakistan than 23years in any westernised city or countryside.
Asalaam Alekum,

A country where people think terrorism originated. They're probably right and, to be honest, I don't blame them. I mean, Pakistan gets a lot of bad press from the media because of a small group of people thinking that if they blow up a few buildings, they will go to heaven. Well, they're wrong. It does nothing but kill innocent people and makes the media brainwashes more people into thinking that Pakistan is the worst place on Earth. As a fourteen year old Muslim girl, I find it offending to read what people have written about Pakistan. But it's not their fault. It's the terrorists fault for giving Pakistan a bad name. But then, I also think that people are ignorant when they are asked to describe Pakistan. Yes, women are treated unfairly but they do not get raped and/or killed every eight minutes. If that did happen, don't you think the media would have written something about it by now? And yes, the political side of Pakistan is failing. Miserably. Sometimes I think I should go out there and run for President because the last few have been utterly useless. If I were President, I'd build more orphanages and more women's refuges because I've been to some of the poorest areas in Pakistan and what I saw, I'll never forget. There was this one boy who was in a thin pair Shalwar Kameez, on the side of the motorway because his parent's had kicked him out or they had died. It's not that parent's don't look after their children, it's because they can't afford to. Would any of us be able to have 10+ children and live on 50p a week? I don't think so. So it'd be nice to see people stop making ignorant comments about the condition of Pakistan and how the women and children are treated because, frankly, they deserve better than that, don't you think?
Person 1: I hate the Paki's
Person 2: Why?
Person 1: They blew up the Twin Towers
Person 2: You shouldn't hate them because of that. It wasn't their fault.
Person 1: Oh my God, are you a Paki lover now?
Person 2: No, I just think it wasn't the whole of Pakistan's fault for the bombing of the Twin Towers
Person 1: Errr! Paki Lover!

Also the region of kashmir has been disputed for many years and negotiations are still going on. Both India and Pakistan are Nuclear powers.
