Borrowed Ladder

Taken from the movie "Gattaca". The term is associated with a detested segment of society; one of those who refuses to play the hand that he was dealt. Most commonly known as a borrowed ladder, or a de-gene-erate.

We have a borrowed ladder who has infiltrated Gattaca and has been mascarading as one of it employees.

borrowed light

If you are in a room with no windows or other direct sources of light, and if light enters from an adjoining lighted room, the indirect illumination is borrowed light.

We worked in the library and had only the borrowed light from the adjacent room to work with that night.

borrowed time

Generally used by old people of themselves. They're living longer than they're "supposed to", hence they're living on borrowed time.

My 90th birthday is approaching. I feel like I'm living on borrowed time.

borrowed time

Mortgaged your home to buy a Rolex.

Seriously, it means to live beyond your life expectancy.

Some of my hard drives used to be in 486es, so they're living on borrowed time.

dutch borrower

A person who takes your things from you and never returns them.

That Jake Persoon is such a dutch borrower, I let him use my netflix account, but he still hasn't paid me the 15 dollars he owes me for it.
