A film or book that has a strong but typically confusing plot, up to the end where it's revealed that much of what the main character(s) and/or audience believed to be true is an illusion of some sort. It was good with Fight Club, but after a while it tends to be disappointing once you realise that it's an age old plot. Examples include Fight Club, The Machinist, Secret Window, Matchstick Men, and probably some other stuff I'm forgetting.
Named after a Dissociative Fugue State of amnesia, in which the Merck Manual of Diagnosis and Therapy defines as "One or more episodes of amnesia in which the inability to recall some or all of one's past and either the loss of one's identity or the formation of a new identity occur with sudden, unexpected, purposeful travel away from home.", and further "Dissociative Amnesia" as "An inability to recall important personal information, usually of a traumatic or stressful nature, that is too extensive to be explained by normal forgetfulness."
That movie was alright up until it turned out that the creepy fat guy turned out to be made up in the main characters head. Then I realised it was just another fugue film.

A modern disorder characterized by reversible amnesia for personal identity, including the memories, personality and other identifying characteristics of individuality due to the purchase of a new gadget such a last generation iPhone.
The state, accompanied by the establishment of a new identity, is short-term. After recovery from techno-fugue, previous memories usually return intact, however there is complete amnesia for the entire episode.
In my techno-fugue state, staring at my new iPhone the way I once glanced at humanity, with interest and anticipation, I nearly knock down toddlers and the elderly, lost in my newly acquired identity.

where you wake up and you are someone else and then some time later you come back to yourself. The thing is you can demand people on acid to "dissociate!" and they think they do, but really they don't because part of a dissociative fugue is that it can't be drug-induced.
Alex: "Eli. Dissociate!"
Eli: "I like mittens!"
Josie: "Sweet God,I think Eli's having a dissociative fugue!

Being temporarily unaware of oneself and familiar others following a return airline flight that crosses multiple time zones.
I live on the East coast, and when I woke up after my first night back from the West coast, I saw may husband and thought, "who is that," then I knew I must have been the victim of Jet-Fugue
Not to be confused with dissociative fugue, a period of disconnection from real life brought on by trauma (an example being Renรฉe Zellweger's character in Nurse Betty, who blocks out a murder she witnesses by believing herself part of a hospital drama playing on TV).
Basically the same as a wiki-hole but allowing for other sites, like YouTube or TV Tropes - a state of mental distancing from the here and now brought on by clicking so many links related to what you were looking up that by the time you've made it back to reality you can't remember what you came in for and dinner's ruined.
"I had a massive associative fugue last night. I was looking up something on youtube about dangerous snakes and found myself an hour and a half later watching clips from A Fish Called Wanda."

A TTRPG campaign where it takes a Railroad approach to setting the actions, but the DM makes no effort to form a coherent story. This makes the players feel like theyโve been blackout drunk for the duration of a session, or like theyโve been in a fugue.
โMan I wish I knew what that one politician guy said to us last session, if it werenโt such a fugue state railroad Iโd know what the fuck is happening in this game.โ

The act of fleeing the scene of a negative sexual encounter. Marked by a strong aversion to having contact or communication with the other sexual party. In extreme cases even being in the same vicinity is too much to bear. Often occuring after cum horror. Often leads to shame shower.
Yeah, we had sex. But I had an episode of post-sexual fugue. I snuck out, got in my car, and drove-off like a mad man with a sigh of relief.
