guru

One who prides him or herself on being a cesspool of useless information, and who will often inappropriately throw out random facts in normal conversation to appear more intelligent than they actually are - especially when they are misinformed but overly confident in their knowledge.

Often, a guru will ruin a joke by pointing out a flaw in logic or in facts, or will rattle off an excessive amount of information on a topic that nobody really cared about to begin with.

JH: I don't drink tea. It's unhealthy because it has caffeine in it.
Everyone: Thanks, GURU.

JH: George Harrison was important to The Beatles because he helped many other stars become popular, such as Eric Clapton.
Everyone: Gu. Ru.

Guru: Yeah man, Slow Ride is the theme to That 70's Show.
SG: What? No it isn't. Are you sure?
Guru: Yeah.
SG: How sure?
Guru: Like 100%. It's definitely the theme song.

guru

n. a junior associate in law firm whom others have deemed as being the expert on a given subject matter or area of law simply by virtue of having performed some research on the matter or small aspect thereof, which may have also resulted in a written memo.

Usually results in the newly-minted "expert" being given more assignments on the same subject matter, with the expectation that they will be easy tasks for the guru.

Partner/Sr. Associate: "Can you handle this assignment? I heard you're the office guru on _____."

The guru: "Uh.... sure."
