Emo is term used today to describe mostly anyone. Its used to desribe people from jocks to nerds. It is often confused with hardcore or scene. If someone takes a picture of themselves on myspace that involves a mirron, real close up, or from an odd angle, its considered emo. Most people that desribe others as emo usually dont understand what emo truly is. Some common misconceptions are with the trends emo kids follow. They usually wear tight pants (not girl pants) only black t-shirts, studded belts but white sometimes if they know much about the scene lol, and often have hair covering one side of their face. What is sad about these characteristics is that they desribe many other stereotypes as well, such as scene, goth, nerds, wanna be goths, ex-nerds, and well mostly anyone.
The people that make fun of emo are even worse. Emo kids follow trends just like everyone else. Is a preppy person not following a trend by shoping for clothes at aeropostal or a store of that sort? They just are insecure about themselves and feel a need to pick on someone that may be more open with their feelings or someone who fits the stereotype.
If people are to continue making fun of the emo fad, they need to actually take a look at people who call themselves emo, and see them for who they really are and not just some stereotype.

A depressive manic who is usually this way because of a tragedy in their life. Often will perform strange rituals that causes harm to themselves. These types most often need professional counseling and the aid of drugs.
A whiny fucking bitch emo fag however, is usually a white teenager of rich descent but still think their lives are tragic even though they live in a rich, sheltered surburban neighborhood. Will often spend time to monitor online social websites (e.g. MySpace, Facebook, ect.) and write shitty poems. If encountered with these types, stay away.

Often used to describe a person. There are two definitions to this word: emotionless, and emotional. The belief that "wearing dark clothes, having the hair covering an eye or both, cutting ones self, having little to no friends, and wearing eye liner/makeup despite gender" is a false concept.

The word Emo doesnt mean Emotional because if it did then Everybody could be labeled emo for the fact everyone has emotions. It originated from 'Emotive Hardcore'.
Not all emo's are depressed and cut themselves.
Alot of emo's are happy and proud of their quirky free dress sense.
They tend to get alot of stick from chavs who really have no place to talk
They support there favourite bands by wearing their merchandise.
Emos get slated alot and its unfair because they are just people living their life how they like it.
Alot of Emo's listen to My Chemical Romance so they then get mistaken as an emo band when they are actually Rock.

Emo is used for a description for both a music genre and a fashion sense. Emo is not about cutting yourself or being depressed. It's about being yourself and rebelling against society. All emo people aren't gay either. They usually have choppy, layered hair and wear band shirts, skinny jeans, and converse sneakers.
