Colloquial: Person who rings (“dings”) the bells, ie: in a bell tower or at a church.
Modern: mechanical device used to ring large bells, similar to a club or mallet.
My kids asked me what a “dingus” is, and I made up on the spot that it’s a person who dings bells. So now I am adding it to urban dictionary so I can look it up online and prove the definition to be real.
Similar to nincompoop. This is a light hearted or endearing word used to describe an idiot, usually someone who has done something dumb purely at their own expense. This word conveys the idiocy of the person, but conveys no emotion of annoyance, anger, or condescension towards that person.
“Sam rear ended a police car, what a dingus!”
A dingus is someone who does idiotic things like stick balloons over their heads...like my bf andrew.
Person 1: "Dude I looked up the word dingus and saw a picture of your bf.."
Person 2: "Yeah probably because he holds the world record for being the biggest dingus dingbat in american history"
