Ultra-effective chess tactic whereby a diagonal piece (i.e. a bishop or a queen) attacks 4 opponent pieces at the same time, so that the attacked pieces form an X-shape between each other, thus (according to legendary chess grandmaster xQc) resembling a wooden shield. The best move in response to the wooden shield tactic is considered to be resignation, as computers are yet to find a position where any response to the tactic doesn't lose on the spot. The tactic is considered to be incomprehensible to inexperienced players and even grandmasters, and only exceptionally high-IQ individuals with an IQ of 107 over are considered to be capable of understanding it.
Coined by prominent proponent of the Bing-Bang-Boom chess philosophy GM xQc, the wooden shield is an essential part of the theory behind the Flying Dragon, Knight variation, as well as the Flying Dragon, I Take Your Pawn variation openings, which build upon the idea that early pawns don't matter - an idea repeatedly corroborated by top-of-the-line engines and neural nets such as AlphaZero.
Noob: I'm a queen, a rook, and two pieces up in material, this guy's got no chance.
107-IQ God: *smirks* Omae wa mou shindeiru
107-IQ God: *plays the wooden shield*
Noob: *resigns in shame*

the greatest video game boss to ever exist. unlike majority of in-game bosses who fight the protagonist because of conflicting ideals, Marauder Shields, an indoctrinated turian husk from Mass Effect 3 armed with only an assault rifle opposes the protagonist in hopes of preventing the said protagonist from entering the conduit and experiencing a crappy ending.
His legacy carries on to the campaign to retake the great Bioware franchise, and his name has become synonymous with hope brought upon from sacrifice.
Honor Marauder Shields' sacrifice, retake mass effect 3!
After seeing the krogan, salarians, geth, rachni and the quarians work together to retake Palaven, Garrus Vakarrian's marauder shields helped him to get through the war.
he is a marauder for he stole our hearts
he is shields for he protected us
he lived as a generic enemy character, he died a hero.
RIP Marauder Shields

The sound of every womenβs vagina closing and your virginity shield being raised.
Link's final shield that defends virtually everything and is so powerful that monsters can't break it and is the most badass shield in the world. Can even PREVAIL against GANON. GANON gets worried every time he sees Link's MASTER SWORD AND HYLIAN SHIELD.
Link used his Hylian shield to defend against Ganon!
A fictional item. The term is sometimes used humorously on message boards when a user has just posted something (usually controversial) that runs the risk of instigating an argument/backlash, i.e. being flamed.
The purpose of the shield is therefore to 'protect' the person from any potential flames that may fly their way.
Person A: Lol final fantasy x sucks
Person B: ...I hope you brought your flame shield.
Person C: I honestly don't see why so many people like (insert popular game). IMO it has a tedious battle system, the difficulty is too easy, and the story is as clichΓ©d as hell. Discuss. *holds up flame shield*
