Many people confuse clip and magazine. A clip is not a magazine! Extremely few firearms have a clip inserted into it to feed the weapon.

Clipping is a penalty in American football in which a blocker will hit a non-ball carrying opponent from behind and below the waist. Not to be confused with block in the back, which is essentially the same thing but the contact occurs at or above the waist.
Clipping is a foul that usually results in a 15 yard penalty.

This results in a chopping off or "clipping" of the signal done to a manageable level, which off causes the loss of some part of the signal. Keeping a signal at a level of clipping for more than a few minutes will kick a amplifier into "protect" mode until it cools off.
