up note

An 'up note' is a contrasting piece of positive information or commentary you make after writing or stating verbally something that while true is somewhat negative or depressing.

My hire car was comfortable to drive, but sedate - cars today are detached from the thrill of yesteryear - the smell of petrol and leather upholstery - the sound of the purr of the petrol cat. On an up note - the thrill of driving will return the moment I step into my vintage Mercedes!
