plastic punk

The meaning has changed slightly over time:

1970s: An individual or band who took up punk too late after its mid-70s birth, and so simulated the general look of late punk but little of the original ethos. Most 'plastic punks' were fashion-oriented, in it just because it meant they could finally start wearing something non-hippy. A minority had some of the original punk attitude too - but it was directed as violence against other punks and against the teddy-boy revivalist of the time. Often the latter 'plastic punks' caused a lot of the violence at gigs in '78/'79.

1990s onwards: the term is still being used in the USA and UK, to deride "punk" bands who use the music style to spout mainstream liberal 'politically-correct' attitudes.

1970s: "In the incident Joe Strummer, of The Clash had smacked a member of the mob with his guitar, was arrested and released after it had been established that he wasn't pissed. The band were, however, pissed off by this element at their gigs. Yet again, the result of a plastic punk attitude."

1990s, USA: "...forget those impressions of the East Bay as being a politically-correct plastic punk world. The bands featured here are the underground of the underground."

1990s USA: "Perhaps predicting, predating and being too iconoclastic for plastic punk chic, it's unlikely they are going to be on the cover of The Face quite yet."

1990s, England: "Goldsmiths Tavern is only good for a stabbing or a puking plastic punk."

Plastic Scouser

Someone who supports Liverpool FC, but doesn't even know where Merseyside is, nevermind Liverpool.

Easy to spot in their replica shirts with the name of a player on the back who's since moved to a bigger club.

Believe they have kudos for 'always supporting them', despite being a glory hunter in the first place.

Easy to spot in pubs around Surrey and the south of England, talking in cockney accents, waving a copy of the Sun about, shouting about "plastic mancs".

Plastic Scouser = 99% of Liverpool supporters

Plastic Barbie

Sometimes you hear people being referred to as a "plastic barbie," and you probably don't know the text they are putting this phrase in. To be blunt, a plastic barbie is a fake, shallow, thin-minded person, with the looks and metaphoric ego of a Barbie doll, or, for a man, a Ken doll.

Also, scene kids refer to themselves as plastic barbies, whether it's true or not. It doesn't mean they are fake on the outside, or necessarily inside, but they do have obsessions with keeping up their image through material things. This usually means they really love their material items, i.e., their accessories, their hi-tops, their flashy clothes, etc.

See: Examples.

NOTE: This post is not to upset anyone or offend anyone:) I'm a scene kid, myself.

Blonde bimbo 1: Hey Tisha, look at that whore's fake tan.

Blonde bimbo 2: Yeah, I know. Must be a plastic barbie.

Plastic Bagging

Similar to the act of paper bagging. However, because the person being bagged cannot breath under the plastic bag opposed to the paper bag, he/she will suffocate as a result. The term is used to describe someone that is so ugly that you would have to kill them after intercourse.

Adam: Charlies' girlfriend is a real minger, he ought to be Plastic Bagging that bitch.

Bart: I think you mean paper bagging?

Adam: I don't think you understand just how ugly she is.
