iphone gamer

Someone who claims to be a gamer, however, all he does that is game related is play free-to-play iPhone games. He probably doesn't own any form of gaming console. The only game probably plays besides iPhone games is Roblox.

Bill: Hey, want to speed-run the new Mario Game?
Chris: Sure!
WIlliam: Hey guys! I got this new cool iPhone game!
Bill: Shut the fuck up, Wlliam! You are such an iPhone Gamer!

A lost gamer

A lost gamer is someone who plays so many games so often that they lost themselves within the games. Or it can mean someone who plays WAYY too much.

"Oh my god Karen! Alex turned into a lost gamer!"
"Guess we can't talk to him anymore"

Gamer Archetype

There are two ways to classify gamers, by time and genre.

Time: The basic and easy to define archetype.

Casual: These gamers often log less than 20 hours of play time a week

Core: The bulk of gamers, the play usually between 20-30 hours a week

Hardcore: These gamers manage to log 30-40+ hours a week. I fit into this genre.

-SubCore: Gamers that would be hardcore, but are restricted on time, because of parental/girlfriend/boyfriend interference.

Lead: These are the gamers you see at the top of the leaderboards, and statistically, for most games, these people work less than 20 hours a week. for most games this is the line you don't want to cross.

Which gamer archetype describes you?

gamer's block

a condition in which a gamer longs to play a game, but upon sitting at their set up they find themselves staring at the only the screen. They look through their available games, lusting for something to engage in, but ultimately find nothing. They are stuck hopelessly fishing in the vast ocean of content, unable to make a catch. The curse of the gamer, if you will.

"I've been sifting through my games for the past thirty minutes and haven't opened a single application. Guess I'm going through some gamer's block."

"I just looked around for a new game, realized I didn't want a new game, opened up one I already have, stared at the menu for a few minutes, and closed the game. I'm back at square one. I've got a serious case of gamer's block."

girl gamer

A female gamer who enjoys playing games and regularly does so. Female gamers vary widely between the extremes of 'casual' and 'hardcore' gaming, and may be interested in any genre or type of game. They may have a particular game that they specialize in, or may play a variety of different games.

Girl gamers are most often noticed in FPS games as they're rarer there, rather than in MMOGs where there are many female players.

Girl gamers may also pretend to be male in order to avoid comments about their gender while gaming, which can make girl gamers seem even rarer. Girl gamers may also be difficult to notice outside of a game, as girl gamers often talk about things besides games while they're not playing them.

Girl gamer can also refer to any girl who plays games that are though to be more popular with males, for example Dungeons and Dragons.

I'm a girl gamer who's rather bored with the misconceptions about us.

True Gamer

A True Gamer is one who consistently spends time playing PC and/or console games, at least three to four times per week. Hours spent playing can vary from only an hour per session to multiple hours per session. This consistent behavior must be present for a long period of time (i.e. more than 4 –6 months).

A True Gamer plays to have fun with the game and to have fun with friends. He/she enjoys winning, yet mostly is concerned with the pleasure of the entertainment.

A True Gamer also usually makes time to “fit in” a little time to play, no matter how busy he/she is. Playing games is fun and relaxing for the True Gamer.

A True Gamer enjoys playing a game AFTER finishing it; maybe not spend the same number of hours as before beating it, but will not sell the game after completing the main objectives.

A True Gamer DOES NOT buy a game, play and beat it in a span of one month, then never plays is again, then continues on with his/her life (this person could be considered a “regular gamer” or a “recreational gamer”).

More details regarding the “gamer” genre:
- A Gamer is one who plays PC and/or console games; one that may only play a game “once in a while.”
- A Recreational Gamer is one who plays only a select few types of games (e.g. sports, RPGs, or first-person shooter) and will only play the games when it is convenient to him/her (a.k.a Casual Gamer)
- A Hardcore Gamer is one who dedicates all free time to PC and/or console games. This person DOES NOT have to smell, be a geek, or any other stereotype associated with this type. This person respects the gaming industry for all of its accomplishments throughout its history, prefers to win, prefers to beat every game he/she plays, and talks to others about the games (in detail) he/she plays to others outside of his/her own house.

There are more recreational gamers than true gamers.
