fair-weather friend

A friend who doesn't help in times of difficulty. Likely nautical in nature, referring to the fact that when weather is good nearly anyone can help on a ship.

When Tom refused to help me move after my divorce I realized that he was a fair-weather friend.

Fair-weather spouse

when a spouse, girlfriend/boyfriend/husband/wife is the greatest partener around when the relationship is fun and easy going. When things turn for the worst or become difficult, as relationships eventually do, they jump ship like their pants are on fire.

P1: Why did Melissa want that divorce after being married for so long? They seemed to be happy...

P2: She is a Fair-weather Spouse...

P1: Oh, makes sense, Bitch.

fair-weather friend

A person that is a brilliant friend while things are going well, but when the gong gets tough, the person ups and leaves.

when I was rich, Chris was such a great friend. But when I screwed up and lost everything, I never heard from him again. Chris is such a fair-weather friend.

fair-weather friend

Usually a good friend to begin with that eventually takes advantage of a true friend and does not maintain the SAME loyalty and respect. Without an explation why, a fair weather friend may abandon a friendship altogether for superficial reasons or changes in moral beliefs without a care for nurturing fair dicussion. The exception is when that person needs something, they know they can still count on an "all weather friend"

Since she's a fair-weather FRIEND, I guess that means I'm still her friend in all weather until I consider her not a friend any longer.

brass monkey weather

Extremely cold weather, used by people of Sunderland and possibly Newcastle (I am not saying the 2 are the same, don't worry) as they are the only type of people who I have heard say it. "Brass monkey weather" is called thus because the temperature is so cold that "it would freeze the bollocks of a brass money".

#1: Boooar, its brass monkey weather!
#2: Ha? What?
#1: It would freeze the bollocks of a brass monkey
#2: Genius.

Fair Weather Fan

New Dats. A sickening majority of 2009-2010 Saints Fans who couldn't stand the saints or the NFL for most of the season. The last 8 weeks this fan has bought 10 shirts, a jersey and hotel room in the quarter to proclaim how much they love the saints and leech off the joy felt by the who dats. In other words they are about as cool as a fanny pack.

New Dat: Stand up and get what
Who Dat: it is Stand up and get Crunk
Who Dat 2: who in the fuck is that?
Who Dat: Another fucking New Dat
Who Dat2: Where were all of them 8 weeks ago?
Who Dat: Leaching of the corndogs at LSU. Don't worry they won't be here long.
Who Dat 2: Good I hate the fair weather fans, they are fucking useless and they are raising the ticket prices.
