I used to be an adventurer just like you, then I took an arrow to the knee

The most overly used phrase in gaming history. From the game Skyrim.

Guard: I used to be an adventurer just like you, then I took an arrow to the knee.

Player: LOL

Took an Arrow to the Knee

A euphemism for proposing to your significant other.

A common saying among Vikings during their time period. When Vikings proposed to their significant others, they'd usually get down on one knee (similar to the tradition today) and do so. Then they'd settle down and maybe stop pillaging as much.

Since actually being shot in the knee with a real arrow would have a more-or-less similar effect, the phrase "Took an arrow to the knee," became a saying for proposal.

That's why the guards in the game Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim say it so often; the game is heavily influenced by Viking culture, and most of the guards are probably married.

-Guard: I used to be an adventurer like you. But then I took an arrow to the knee.
-Dragonborn: Is she hot?
-Guard:...Fuck off.

Then I took an arrow to da knee!

One of the most funny but overused video game quotes ever! Originating from the smash hit skyrim by Bethesda, there is a single guard that states "I used to be an adventurer like you, but then I took an arrow to the knee!". This guard cannot adventure any longer because in medieval times, the difficult techniques required to fix a shattered kneecap did not exist. This is assuming it was a barbed arrow shot my a medieval bow, which was common practice then, it would have had to be pushed all the way through his knee because those arrows were triangle shaped and could only go one way without permanently ruining his knee. So he could no longer adventure. There is a game theory video detailing it further.

In game: "I used to be an adventurer like you, but then I took an arrow to the knee!"
As meme:"I used to be an/a _________, but then I took an arrow to da knee!"
