Thanksgiver is a "Thanksgiving" dinner had before the actual day of Thanksgiving. It is usually celebrated by college students who have a dinner with their friends before going home to their family dinners on the day of Thanksgiving, or by people who have their dinner at an earlier date because they must travel on Thanksgiving and prefer to do it without an extremely full stomach.
Sandra decided it was better to have Thanksgiver rather then Thanksgiving because Marshal had to travel on the actual day of Thanksgiving and would not be home.

sitting around in a room full of your family and being completely incapable of going shopping because all the stores are closed..and then not eating until about 10pm because something went wrong when they were cooking the turkey
