An image posted on a social networking site that gets shared and reposted by many people.
Viral images are many times paired with a falsely attributed quote, or with a story that falls into urban legend status and is completely untrue; or at the very least, retold with a total lack of supporting facts or legitimate references.
Despite this lack of proof and facts, people repost the image over and over and many take it at face value and believe it to be the honest truth, never bothering to do a 30 second internet search that would reveal its message to be completely untrue.
Viral images are often used as propaganda with a clear bias towards one side of a cause or viewpoint (mostly political in nature).
Still, some are just a funny picture with a silly caption.
"Did you see that Viral Image of the puppy that got tattooed by that guy?" (In reality, a man who is a tattoo artist drew on his puppy's belly with a marker)

(Also known as viral marketing). Releasing a video or other creation in hopes that it will be widely forwarded and be beneficial for a product or service referenced in the creation. If the creation seems amateurish even though it was created by professionals paid by the organization that benefits from being referenced, the effort is known as "subviral".
A cartoon showing three bathroom stalls with balloons of the expressions "Butt", "Wipe", and "Errr" should be suspected of being viral marketing for Anhaeuser Busch.

Viral Footprint : noun term used as a meter to describe the amount viral exposure and potential spread of disease your lifestyle ,habits, and consumption creates at any given time.
Buying groceries and going out twice a month to get them and to feed yourself at home has a smaller viral footprint than getting someone to deliver your food on a daily basis so be responsible and feed yourself in this time of crisis but do not got into the store either and cough all over everything and everyone and make yourself a VIral Sasquatch either.
