An unencumbered approach to animation that is more concerned with novelty, formal play, and personal expression over conventional or commercial approaches to the form.

As a category Experimental Animation is malleable, usually encompassing any approach to making Moving Images that doesn't fall within the industry standards of its moment. This includes cinematic, theatrical, digital, expanded, and gallery exhibition formats.
