Viking Metal

A subgenre of death metal with strong roots in Scandinavian countries such as Norway and Finland. It is similar to folk metal in the aspect that it heavily utilizes melody combined with instruments such as the accordion, panflute and harp, along with deep operatic backing vocals to achieve a medieval atmosphere. Lyrical content deals with Viking culture and a Norse outlook - the belief that the only way to gain passage into Valhalla in Asgard is to die in a grand battle or adventure. It also shares subject matter with power metal, in that it deals with legend-esque things like warriors and dragons. Adversely it can be seen as power metal's opposite, as power metal deals with knights and heroes using neo-classical undertones where the protagonists of viking metal are swarthy and violent, almost barbaric.
Though viking metal is dark and grave in nature much like black metal, artists and fans of this genre tend to have a positive outlook - unlike screamo and gothicism, it's not themselves they hate, but everyone else.

Some good viking metal and folk metal bands include Ensiferum, Bathory, Amon Amarth, Folkearth and Finntroll.

false metal

False Metal is a genre of music coined by the media (in various forms) as "metal" that obviously has no true connection to pure metal, or any of the "evil" found in metals like the metal of death.
Sugar coated and sappy, polished and clean, with emphasis on pop like structures, a marketable image, and a general aura of NOT being "devil music".
true metal, in it's various forms (most notably pure/power metal & deathmetal) has remained unscathed by the passing trends of various false metals, and will continue to thrive via integrity, devotion, passion and sincerity not found in any false metal acts!

in the 80's it was bands like Poison and Warrant
in the 90's it was Limp Bisquit, Korn, and Coal Chamber
in the 00's it was all of those "metalcore" and "screamo" bands.

who knows what pitiful False Metal trend is next?

metal head

A very small ammount of people fit into this category. Your average highschool would have four or less of them at most, seeing as most people who listen to "metal" actually listen to Alt. Rock/Nu metal. Metalheads are usually spotted by their looks. Usually denim jeans (Blue or black), band shirts, long hair/shaved hair, etc. The metalheads truely are the stupidest group of people to pick a fight with, we may be the quiet type, but metalheads could easilly wipe out multiple kids, and have a short temper that goes along with that. The metal culture however has dropped quite a bit, seeing as how the "hip" thing is to listen to rap or numetal.

Real metal bands: Iced Earth, Judas Priest, Amon Amarth, Bathory, Morbid Angel, Manegarm, Hammerfall, Blind Guardian, Burzum, Borknagar, Emperor, Immortal, Einherjer, Finntroll, etc

NOT metal bands: Korn, Slipknot, Mudvayne, Godsmack, Limp Bizkit, etc

hitler metal

1) Yet another sub-genre of heavy metal music characterized by the constant use of national socialist lyrics, and referrances to world war II.
2) The genre of metal founded in 1939 by Hitler mein fuhrer himself. Includes repetive drumming and guitars, and vocals very similar to stupid-metal. Also has background noise of ongoing warfare and destruction.

Hitler metal is awesome, I love hitler metal, it is neat.

power metal

a really great sub genre of metal. it contains fast (most of the time long) guitar solos and a vocalist who can really reach those high notes

"In the land of a thousand souls we will carry on through the rain. In the sun we will move along with the memories of the slain."
this is real power metal.
