Rock Music

Music (normally) played with guitars bass and drums. A way to "stick it to the man"
You can't really say who started rock music, some people may argue it was Elvis others may say it was The Beatles. Its like that everlasting question, why did the chicken cross the road?

"And there used to be a way to stick it to the Man. It was called rock 'n roll, but guess what, oh no, the Man ruined that, too, with a little thing called MTV!" - Jack Black, School Of Rock

Music snob

A specimen that is prone to be of high levels of irritance to the normal person. In general, they hold the belief that their musical taste and their musical taste alone is relevant while anyone who has opposing or different opinions on music is considered stupid and won't hesitate to spew snotty remarks at you. These people are often pretentious poseurs who always make an ass out of themselves as they claim to be "non-conformist" for listening to indie bands with quirky names who have song titles that are at least ten words in length. The funny thing is, is that they don't realize that they are actually the biggest conformers out there for listening to, or claiming to listen to certain bands or genres in order to fit into a certain scene or gain some cred.

Generalizations aside, they are the Adolf Hitlers of music and if you don't like the exact same music they do, they will cut you down in ridiculous ways for having a different opinion and it often leads to broken friendships. If you find that you are friends with a music snob, do yourselves a favor and just cut them loose right away. It'll save your fist from being hit by their face when they find out you listen to mainstream. There are some who will even criticize others for not being as pedantic about music or a band as they are or even simple things as to why you are interested in the artists you like.

General music snob: Excuse me? You listen to Britney Spears? That's not real music; that's manufactured crap! Try listening to real music like Suzie Crotchrocket and the Breast Rashes!

Pretentious poseur: All the bands I listen to are known by fewer than 100 people and you can't find their albums in stores, so that totally means I have a better taste in music than everyone! I'm so HxC!

Know-it-all: Unless you read the liner notes of every album, read all of their biographies, know all the words to their released and unreleased songs by heart AND look up every possible bit of information on the band as soon as you hear about them on the internet like I do, you don't deserve to call yourself a fan of music! Hmph!

Shit Music

Shit music, is music that requires almost no talent to produce. The genre most commonly associated with Shit music is pop music, in which artists are rarely able to play the instruments to produce the music and often deliver poor vocals. Such an industry thrives on image; records are typically sold using sex or idolising the artists.

A prime example of shit music is the Spice Girls. This group are neither talented with instruments, nor can they sing. They can hereby by referred to as a 'shit band'. However, they were popular due to their 'girl power' image. When the group split up and tried to make it as solo artists (with the exception of one) all of their careers failed as their image was lost and all that was left was their weak voices.

classical music

Classical music is music that was (is) written to be played a specific way with specific orchestrations -- be they quartets, full orchestras, solo instruments (piano, organ, guitar), singers or any combination thereof. In its broadest sense it was written from the eras of Bach to Ligeti, but strictly speaking involves the period of Mozart, Haydn and early Beethoven. Forms include symphonies, concert overtures, concertos, operas and many others. I find it odd that when the phrase "Classical Music" is used most people never realize just how multi-faceted and encompassing the genre actually is. (A good many film composers were excellent classical composers in their own right -- B. Herrmann, S. Prokofiev, M. Rosza, J. Williams, just to name a few, and their styles of composition carried over to the screen.) The music from the film Psycho was written in the most strict classical forms, as too was North by Northwest -- their soundtracks play like symphonic tone poems. Most people would probably not realize that a good amount of music they recognize is in fact Classical Music ... composers like Franz List and Rossini quickly come to mind.

So, why do many people poo poo it? Personally, I think it's because so many don't understand or even know much about it ... and that's not meant to be insulting, just an observation. How many can name a composer for every letter of the alphabet? -- Albeniz, Brahms, Chopin, Dvorak ... etc., and then give a work by each? Wow, that's a lot, eh? -- doesn't even scratch the surface! You could listen to days (if not weeks) of music by each one, that's how much there is to explore. And then do the whole alphabet over again with different composers. And then you would be surprised as to how much of that music is incorporated into today's popular music -- and how much of yesterday's popular (folk) music was used by classical composers -- listen to Dvorak's New World Symphony as an example.

There's so much out there it's almost impossible not to like some aspect of it -- and chances are, you already do.

Classical Music that is easily liked ...

F. J. Haydn -- Trumpet Concerto in E flat major.
R. Strauss -- Till Eulenspiegel's Merry Pranks.
I. Stravinsky -- Symphony No. 1.
M. Moszkowski -- Concerto for Piano.
A. Bruckner -- Symphony no. 4 (Romantic)

highschool musical

This is possibly the worst show yet. It is just a movie with a bunch of people who think they can act but the truth is they can not act worth a shit. Sadly most of the little girls in your family insist on buying and some parents give in so the whole house hold has to suffer. This movie gets big girls to drool over zac effron or what ever the guys name is.

Oh my gosh they made another Highschool Musical!? The first one sucked a lot so this one must suck more.

pop music

The shittiest genre of music ever. Pop usually features talentless losers who rely on audio editing and autotune to sound half decent. For some reason, pop is extremely popular among American teens instead of real music, like rock.

Average American Teen: "Did you hear that new Bruno Mars song? It's pretty epic, no?"

Guy Who Appreciates Real Music: "Fuck no dude, Bruno Mars sucks, just like all pop music. Now excuse me while I listen to some REAL music."
