The Ninth layer of hell mostly overrun with guys. some girls maybe in there as well but it is a rare case. There is no way out other than pure skill and luck. Its kind of like winning a game of Uno, but the win loss ratio is 1-1000000000000. Many enter but few will escape.

A guy is great friends with a girl on many levels, save for anything intimate. Possibly the best 'zone' to be in, as a male.
The guy is privy to many a little known facts.
She'll give him a hug if he's down, not just because he got her flowers.
Emotional support is usually mutual, and beneficial.
Best part: You will never fight. As friends, one of you will say something silly or with innuendo, and it'll be back to normally conversation.
George: Bro, I'm so happy to be in the friendzone with Cathy.
Lucas: WTF man? That means you'll never date her or get shit!
George: Psh, I don't care. I can play games with her anytime, we joke all the time, never fight, and hang out so often!
Lucas: Man, you be tripping. If you aren't getting booty, you have no reason to be up in there.

When, usually a guy, approaches a female that he likes for a hang out session. The girl agrees and they start hanging out. Since there has been no clear definition to the relationship set up one, in most cases the guy, has stronger feelings.
When the girl expresses platonic feelings for the guy, the guy expresses three reactions:
1. What did you think this was?! I drove you to place and got you this. You owe me. You led me on!
2. Oh cool no worries we can be friends. Then bitterly complains for years to come that he is better for her despite that fact she is an autonomous human who is capable of making her own descions, and even if she is dating a bad person he is not helping her for her own happiness, it is to get with her himself.
3. The most healthy option. "I see, you and I are at different stages. I don't think I can hang with you as I don't see you as a friend. I'm going to step away and reevaluate myself, then come back and see if we can be real friends."
Oh gods she put me in the friendzone. I mean I asked her to hang out when she was already dating someone, but she should see that I am better and she should dump that guy for me.

A euphemism for rejection due to unattractiveness and lack of confidence most often employed by internet dwellers. Actual friendzoning does exist though in just about every comedic movie made in the 90s.
The girl I've been stalking on facebook has never talked to me. Totally friendzoned.
