among his many books one which stands out is "googie-coffee shop architecture "although the googie movement became an archetypal nomenclature which eventually swept the united States in the 1950s it had it's origins in southern California primarily in the Los Angeles area. Hess features such emblematic examples of the genre by focusing on such late greats as 'tiny naylors' the pines and 'ships(never close) coffee shops.
