To "Hang It Up" means to hang ones self or to commit suicide.
A term used jokingly where I'm from. I don't know if it is used anywhere else.
Guy one: "What would you do if you found out Santa wasn't real?"
Guy two: "oh, hang it up for sure!"

to hang your legs, generally with one or more friends or acquaintances, over a ledge of some description and shoot the breeze or quietly contemplate the universe.
Guy1: That ledge looks like a mean place to just hang legs.

Its a NZ term for taking a shit. Shit is darker than white human skin normally, so when youre off to the loo the expression; "See you Im off to hang a darkie," applies!

2. To be left waiting (hanging), sitting at a standstill while you await the return of someone.
