"Most AOL (America On-Line Subscribers) are stupid and gullible, so AOL sells their addresses to spam scammers. Only an idiot would fall for these schemes."
A robbery scam where a woman poses as a prostitute and lures the john/mark into a room. When they are in bed, the woman's male partner rushes in, usually brandishing a gun and posing as a jealous husband or jilted lover. The mark leaves in a hurry, without his clothes or valuables. The perpetrators, or "Murphy artists" collect their loot and escape.
A similar version was used in the movie Porky's as a prank involving a black guy with a machete, chasing the naked crew into the woods.
New Orleans used to be the capital of the Murphy scam.

This is a common name for a small scam around the urban areas of Canada, Sao Paolo, Brazil and certain parts of the Caribbean (namely Jamaica). This is a low level hustle where the scammer puts a lot of effort for a very small reward, usually under $10 or equivalent in goods. Due to the small amounts taken the person (usually a friend or acquaintance) being scammed doesn't even realize they have been fooled until much later.
