the runner-up e-mail

The e-mail you send to ex-lovers after you get engaged or married. It is similar to a form letter rejection for a job or college admission.

"Dear John, I know things did not go so well between us, but you should know it was you and not me. By the way, I'm engaged to someone else. He is a wonderful man named...."

E-mail Coma/Loop

Getting addicted to looking at/ sending e-mails, letting several hours go by being oblivious to everything but your own e-mail world.

Person A: I thought we were going to hang out 2 hours ago...

Person B: I know....I got stuck in an e-mail coma/loop, forgetting about the time. Sorry. I had a never ending circle of e-mails to read. I haven't checked my e-mail in a month, resulting in 1,356 unread e-mails...I totally forgot about it...Sorry!!

Person A: Oh I see...ya that happens to me all the time..Anyway, How about hanging out tommorow?

sacrificial e-mail account

An email account, other than a person’s primary e-mail, that a person creates for posting controversial information so then employers, or anyone else, don’t find out about the stuff they post online

Person 1: dude why tf would you post that? You do know that employers trace that shit
Person 2: don’t worry I used my sacrificial e-mail account
Person 1: oh thank god

Broadcasting e-mail address

When you send an e-mail to multiple people and don't hide their e-mail address. Good way for spammers to harvest e-mail addresses. Better practice is to send bcc: when you have a large list.

I hate it when I get a chain e-mail Broadcasting e-mail address to the entire internet world!

Never send e-mails or forwards to a large group. Rather show all individuals as a bcc.

e-mail failure

when you type someone’s name wrong in an email but the government knows who you were trying to contact and contacts them through esp anyways.

The e-mail failure had someone thinking about the sender during the day.

selective e-mail

Similar to selective hearing, but when a colleague (usually a Manager) only chooses to respond to e-mails which suit their needs.

Typically, this is because they don't know *how* to respond, as a result of being incompetent.
They do this regardless of the impact their lack of reply has on their staff/colleagues.

Ultimately, they will not be held responsible for their lack of response and the blame will fall on the person who was awaiting their response!

Ben: "Corey, did you get my e-mail last Monday?"
Corey: "Yeah, mate."
Ben: "..... Can you let me know how to move forward on that? I need your guidance."
Corey: "Sure! I'll reply to you when I'm at my desk."
Matt: "Corey won't reply to your e-mail. He has selective e-mail, remember?"
Ben: "Shit."
