among his many books one which stands out is "googie-coffee shop architecture "although the googie movement became an archetypal nomenclature which eventually swept the united States in the 1950s it had it's origins in southern California primarily in the Los Angeles area. Hess features such emblematic examples of the genre by focusing on such late greats as 'tiny naylors' the pines and 'ships(never close) coffee shops. Alan hess features "panns diner"and "wichstands " patio in his book "googie-coffer shop architecture". Although panns in "ladera heights"is still a functioning diner. The building which housed wichstands patio at slauson and overhill has been repurposed
