An umbrella term that encompasses all non-normative and/or atypical sex, gender, sexual, and/or romantic identities and typically used interchangeably with LGBT(Q+) but with an emphasis on nonconformity and anti-assimilation due to its origin as a word meaning "strange" and later as a slur against homosexuals; alternatively a standalone label for those who do not wish to further clarify their identity

Person 3: It was and sometimes still is, but many queer people have reclaimed it and find it's the only word that fits us.
1. Originally defined as weird, odd, or unusual. Dated back around the 19th century.
2. A slur used for homosexuals, male or female. Baby Boomers and Gen Xers have been bashed with this slur in the 1960s-1970s. Still used as a derogatory term today.
3. An identity used by the LGBT community; some have reclaimed this word. That's what the Q stands for, but I prefer it used as Questioning.
Even though I'm young, I believe it is used as an offensive word; I'm not weird, nor am I a slur for homosexual.

3.) I identify as queer; I don't identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender, so I'll use the word queer.

Outside of the gender or sexuality norms. Can be an identity of its own, or an umbrella term for LGBTQ in general.
I can’t seem to find a label that fit’s my sexuality, so until I do I will just identify as queer.
Non-heterosexual and its none of your business to ask anymore questions about what the person "actually is"
