btspop

term used to describe bts' music inorder to not limit it to a single genre due to the fact bts' music explores a range of different genre and sounds. Originated from an interview with the recording academy in which bts answered that "bts is the genre" to a statement about how their album Map of the Soul 7 "touches on many genres and sounds" and "breaks free from genre confines" as said by the recording academy. From there fans coined the term btspop to distance it from the genre of kpop

Alot of kpop fans disagree with bts being regarded as their own genre as they thinks its unfair to say bts is different from kpop, however its also alot of the same kpop fans who at the same time say that bts' music is 'becoming westernized' and critique them for no longer 'sounding like kpop'

bts: BTS is the genre !

armys: yes, btspop!! black swan was snubbed from the grammys ! um i mean yes btspop!!

BTSPop

BTSPop or btspop is a term used by armys to describe BTS' discography and music. armys who use this term call themselves btspoppers. this term has various origins and reasons.

in 2018, kpop fans on twitter stated that BTS are β€˜banned’ from the k-pop genre after creating a petition, claiming that they no longer wanted BTS or ARMY to be associated with k-pop because they are too β€˜westernized’ and because of the many fights armys and kpop fans have. as a response, armys have declared their independence and were officially no longer kpop stans, the Army Independence day is on October 14. and therefore, BTS' name was no longer attached to the kpop genre.

but this term is not only used by armys. in fact, bts themselves stated clearly that the genre is BTS. in their interview with the grammys in 2020, yoongi said: "I think it's less and less meaningful to divide music into genres now". Jungkook, taehyung and hoseok added: "The genre is BTS. That's the genre we want to make and the music that we want. New genre"

countless of articles were written about bts being their own genre and how they are no longer considered a k-pop act and them being "above k-pop and in a league of their own". and regardless of what people think or disagree with the use of this term. it is no doubt that bts are actually in a league of their own, above k-pop and cannot be defined by a particular genre but made their own genre that defines them and their musical approach

- it's insane how diverse and rich bts' discography is!! they are on a whole new level now
- told you! the genre is bts. when i say i am a btspop enthusiast THIS is what I mean

- tell me how many times have you seen "bts" and "the first act in history" in one sentence.

- I'VE LOST COUNT. and people still have the audacity to say they are just k-pop. I only believe in btspop. period.

BTSpop

The term to describe BTS' music and representing BTS' separation from the "kpop industry".

BTS is a group from South Korea but their music is not kpop. BTSpop represents BTS' sincere and unique approach to music and due to members loving to explore different genres, BTS doesn't belong to a particular genre. BTS is beyond kpop music and the kpop industry as they have reached levels even western-born artists are yet to achieve. BTS are a global pop sensation and should not have any labels such as "kpop group" attached to them.

I hate kpop, I only like BTSpop!
