When an idealist undertakes a mission to bring under control a chaotic situation, only to be consumed by it and lose his sanity. Usually ends with an order to "terminate with extreme prejudice".

Bob: "Hey man, what happened to Billy?"
Tom: "He's gone Col. Kurtz!"
