A website; a multi-multi-fandom archive for fanfic of all fandoms, pairings, ratings*, and genres. Fiction quality ranges from poor to excellent, by authors of all levels of experience and talent. Fanfiction.net used to house original fiction as well, before spawning FictionPress, where all previously submitted original fic is now stored.
* FanFiction.net caused a controversy a while back after banning all fanfic rated above R (NC-17). A number of fans boycotted the site after losing their fiction, and several others simply began assigning an R rating to graphic fic.

A formerly great site, which hosted a wide amount of stories over a broad choice of categories. As of popular opinion, it is currently a shit pile. It has lazy administration, random deletion of awesome stories and leaves the shit ones behind. Does not fulfil it's motto; 'Unleash your imagination and free your soul'.
Guy 1: Hahaha, check this really funny story on FF.net.
Guy 2: Dude, it got deleted.
Guy 1: You serious? Ok, what about this awesome one?
Guy 2: Nope, sorry.

A site hosting fanfiction where 99% of them sucks like shit and 0.75% are so-so and the other 0.25% are actually good.Also suffers from the mystery of fanfictions getting deleted suddenly without reason.
I m bored so I am going to fanfiction.net and spend hours reading lame stories is that okay?

A pathetic site who's admins and moderators have an insane tendency to delete good fanfiction for no reason whatsoever, citing "plagarism" or "off-topic" reasons. (see Incident 001 and Dr. eL vs. Evangelion for more information)
When fanfiction.net deleted all my fiction, saying it was plagarised from something completely different, I boycotted them.

a stupid site where otakus, goths and nerds (all idiots) go to talk about anime and anything from japan (because everyone knows EVERYTHING from japan is cool especially the yakuza and kamikaze pilots. when people don
t agree with them, they use "witty" comebacks that they think make them cool and the mods and admins delete good stories because of obscure rules that contradict many others.

An enormous site - stigmatized by poor administration and bad decision-making on the part of rules - housing a broad (but not broad enough) range of fanfiction, ranging from the wonderful to the mediocre to the awful.
Considerably less impressive now due to restrictive rules placed on the types of entries allowed in recent years.
Motto: "Unleash your imagination and free your soul." No longer applicable.
I kinda used to love Fanfiction.net, but ever since the owners started to discriminate against certain kinds of stories and ban them, I've kinda thought maybe they should just call it Fanfiction.nazi
