Liberec

Liberec (or Reichenberg in German) is a city in Central Europe, in Czechia.

It’s cold, rainy and hilly, and has a population of about 100k. In the 19th and 20th century, Liberec was significant in the textile industry. Its most famous site is the Ještěd tower.

Czech writer Jan Neruda described Liberec in 1865 as “unpleasant”, as it “takes huge lungs to walk about” (because of its quite hilly terrain even in the centre) and the people who live there “look like marinated eels”.
