3D animation software made for Hatsune Miku. The program is overrun by the TDA model, fangirls, R-18, fandoms such as FNAF, Aphmau, ItsFunneh, and many more. It's also filled with rulebreakers who are not respectful and don't credit people, users who redistribute models, make R-18 edits when the creator of the model says NOT TO, and just a bunch of high school drama. Back in the golden age of MMD, there were such things as MMD Dramas, and these cute lil animations. Right now, the community is oversaturated with YYB and TDA. The people who use the software are usually fangirls (mostly teenagers, typically female) creepy dudes, and people who just wanna have fun. Also, MMD got it's way into Pornhub surprisingly. Of course, the people who use it are perverts.
Fangirl: HAHAHA now I can make my fav FNAF characters dance in MikuMikuDance!
Random guy: The hell is MikuMikuDance?
Creepy dude: 3d animation software to make some juicy 3D hentai

3D freeware animation program utilizing the Bullet physics engine and DirectX. It was developed by Yu Higuchi for the "Vocaloid Promotion Video Project". The iconic "Miku staring at a goose" meme was animated in this software, and many popular VOCALOID music videos have been animated in this software. Often abbreviated simply as "MMD". Users can customize their scene by using MikuMikuEffect which allows them to apply depth of field, bloom, and so much other interesting effects to make your MMD scene unique.
Originally mostly initialized for dance videos, it is also a program for animating meme videos and "MMD dramas". You can load any third party models now, but an earlier version of this program only allowed users to load the standard Hatsune Miku model that came with the program, modeled by Animasa.
The formats this program uses are VPD (Vocaloid Pose Data, used for loading static pose data), VMD (Vocaloid Motion Data, used for loading animated motion files with keyframes), PMD (Model format used for loading models, albeit a bit legacy), and the newer format, PMX.
"Have you heard of MikuMikuDance? I just animated a video of Hatsune Miku dancing to a pop song."
"Sounds sick! Can you show me?"
