run the wheels off

1. To keep doing something long after one should have stopped.

2. To beat a dead horse.

3. Whatever you are doing has died, finished, been exploited to its fullest and you have chosen to continue... perhaps your a jerk.

a. Bill Watterson (creator of Calvin and Hobbes): "I think some of the reason "Calvin and Hobbes" still finds an audience today is because I chose not to run the wheels off it.

I've never regretted stopping when I did."

b. I think ol' Sly may be running the wheels off of the Rocky/Rambo franchises'.

Beatin' the wheels off her

To be engaged in coitus with a female that likes to be smacked around during sex. As you increase in brutality she increases in arousel. Eventually the act heats up so much you end beating the wheels off that bitch until her legs give out.

Codi: "So, did you end up hookin' up with that chick from the bar last night?"
Bob: "Yeah man, we went back to her place and got down to the dirty business. Turns out she likes to be smacked around."
Codi: "Oh snap! Did you get into it?"
Bob: "Fuck yeah, she kept saying harder so I ended up beatin' the wheels off her."

the wheels came off the bus

A situation whereby things get going so fast or are so bad that the entire operation project or relationship fall apart in a catastophic manner.

When the adjustable rates mortgages reset the wheels came off the bus. Many Yuppies who had purchased large expensive homes now found themselves in foreclosure unable to sell their homes or make the now huge payments in a declining real estate market.

till the wheels fall off

a term meaning till the end of an era. Often implied to mean forever but in most cases means until something comes along to mess things up.

To keep something going as long as you possibly can, the way you would drive a car until the wheels off.

"You gotta meet this girl I've been seeing. I'm going to roll with this one till the wheels fall off"

---
"How long do you think you can go before your boss finds out you are not qualified?"
"I have no idea, but I'm going to stick around till the wheel off."
