zero-sum

Zero-sum is the opposite of win win. If part of the people gain something the other part loses.

Washington D. C. is a zero-sum place.

Zero Sum

Wild Turkey bourbon mixed with Surge soda

"Bartender, I hate myself so might I trouble you for a 'Zero Sum,' a mixture of Wild Turkey and Surge? You'll know you've got it right when the color reminds you of having the stomach flu."

zero sum game

In game theory (and economic theory) a zero-sum game is a situation where one persons (or entities) gain has a corresponding loss from another person (or entity).

Initech employee 1: "Hey, everyone took big pieces of the cake now Milton doesn't have one."

Initech employee 2: "Cake is a zero sum game, man."

Zero Sum Total

Outcome of failed incursion or influence strategy wherein no victory can be achieved.

A zero sum total occurs when a planned strategy faces an inevitable outcome where the probability of success becomes zero and nothing is achieved.

Examples of real world zero sun totals:

Zero Sum Total Political Strategy:
The 45th President continually claims the nation is in decline by degrading any positive results made by the 46th President. In doing so, they create a mindset that positive outcomes are not possible regardless who has achieved them. This results in no net gains of solutions for the nation.

Geopolitical Example: Russia aims to conquer ukraine but must destroy ukraine to conquer and by doing so unites majority of world against Russia and their Allie’s while achieving no real physical victory.
