Amfleet

The amfleet coaches are these coaches that sort of airplane styled are fleet of single-level intercity railroad passenger cars built by the Budd Company (that company that made the R32 subway car for NYCTA) for Amtrak in the late 70s to the early 80s. These coaches were based on the budd metroliner EMUs. The first 492 cars, known as Amfleet I and completed between 1975 and 1977, were designed for short-distance service. A second order of 150 cars, known as Amfleet II and completed between 1980 and 1983, were designed for long-distance service. They were the last intercity passenger cars built by the Budd company. Their car length is 85 ft 4 in, Width 10 ft 6 in and Height 12 ft 8 in. Soon they will be replaced by Siemens venture coaches in the future.

Train enthusiasts: What a great day today to ride Amtrak’s trains in the northeast corridor with their amfleet coaches with a ACS-64 and a leading P42DC on the consists of this northeast regional train.
