Pronounced "dim-moo bore-gear", the Dimmuborgir is a large area of unusually shaped lava fields east of Lake MΓ½vatn, on Iceland. The Dimmuborgir area is composed of various caves and rock formations. It would seem that this has been formed from a lava-lake, out of which molten lava flowed and left behind strange formations. The most famous cave being Kirkjan - the Church - high with a large gothic style vault. Dimmu=foggy/dark, Borgir=castle/fortress.

An excellent Black Metal band from Norway that puts on amazing concerts. According to some people, they are no longer a "true" black metal band in the sense of Emperor, Burzum, or Immortal (see earlier post.) Symphonic Black Metal is actually a better description. Their drummer (Nick Barker) recenlty left for unknown reasons.
Dimmu Borgir is named after a volcanic formation in Iceland.

Norwegian Black Metal band.
The name is of Icelandic origin and in English it means something like "The black castle" or "The dark fortress¨.
Β¨Brynjard Tristan is half Icelandic and he had been telling us about the legends and myths and facts as well about the name of the place. He thought it would suit our music pretty well.Β¨

A kickass black metal band from Norway. They have tons of cd's out (my personal favorite is puritanical euphoric misanthropia). They have a lead singer to die for who's name is shagrath and They were on ozzfest 2004, currently they're taking a 2 year break (yes I know, so sad. :(... but then they'll be back cause the battle rages on and on.
They also did the theme song for that show on mtv. Battle for ozzfest.

A really cool symphonic black metal band from Norway.
Sure, they're not traditional black metal like bands such as Bathory or Emperor, and their lyrics can be somewhat.. crazy.. but the music is intense and awesome.
So, before all of you start yelling at me and calling me some sort of evil goth Satan-worshipper.. first of all, I'm Christian and I don't worship Satan, and second of all, I'm not trying to relate to their lyrics - I just like their music. If I wanted to find some good meaning in lyrics, I'd look at bands like Stratovarius or HIM, both of which are also really good.
So once again, Dimmu Borgir is an awesome band, and for those of you who want some nice heavy metal, I suggest checking these guys out.
Some good songs by Dimmu Borgir include: Sympozium, In Death's Embrace, Alliegance
