champloo

Probably best known in the popular anime series "Samurai Champloo," the actual word champloo means blend. "Samurai Champloo" is thus named because it is a blend of traditional japanese culture with a particularly funky hip-hop motif. The final product is one that somehow works albiet strange to first time viewers.

Wow, the champloo of Dr. Pepper and Coke actually tastes pretty good!

Samurai Champloo

An anime made in 2004 by Sunset Studios, and directed by Shinichiro Watanabe, who is considered by many to be a god among gods in the anime world. Shinichiro Watanabe and his brainchild Sunset Studios are also the same people who have made Cowboy Bebop.

Samurai Champloo follows the adventures of Jin, a ronin.. Mugen, an Okinawan criminal... And Fuu, a former waitress who has made both Jin and Mugen to promise her find a 'samurai who smells like sunflowers'. The anime's underlying musical theme is hip hop culture, whereas Cowboy Bebop's was Americana and bebop jazz.

Samurai Champloo

Mugen is a fierce animal-like warrior with a unique Bboying (break-dance) inspired fighting style. Jin has a more traditional style but donโ€™t think of this as a weakness because his skills are amazing. The two contrasting samurai warriors are far from friends, yet their separate paths seem to cross anyways. Mugen is wandering aimlessly through the city when he stumbles upon a teahouse where he meets Jin and Fuu (A ditzy waitress, but donโ€˜t think she doesnโ€˜t have anything hidden up her sleeves). Fuu convinces them both to come with her in search of a mysterious samurai that smells like sunflowers and their journey begins. This modernized hip-hop tale breaks the barriers of the common, historical, samurai anime.

Samurai Champloo is an anime series consisting of 26 episodes. It was broadcast in Japan from May 20, 2004, through March 19, 2005, on the television network, Fuji TV. It also aired on Cartoon Networkโ€™s Adult Swim from 2005โ€“2008. Samurai Champloo was created and directed by Shinichiro Watanabe, whose previous work, Cowboy Bebop, made him renowned in the anime and Japanese television communities. The show was produced by studio Manglobe.
