dixiecrats

noun - An old-tyme Democrat from the south, not affiliated with the present day Democratic party dominant in the northeast and west coast. Most dixie-crats opposed civil rights, were often corrupt and promoted a religious agenda. The party is almost extinct today, though a few still exist as "DINOS"

Al Gore and Bill Clinton are too progressive to be considered Dixiecrats.

dixiecrats

A nick-name for democrats of the southern states, like Mississippi, Louisiana, etc.

Most famous of which would be Zell Miller, a southern Democrat (Of Georgia, I believe) who spoke at the Republican National Convention.

dixiecrat

It currently refers to politically middle-line southern folk. Often have a strong right wing opinion on one issue, but otherwise are democratic. Historically--like waaaaay back-- the word was used for a party that was racist and sucked. Today, it is a person who is proud to be stereo-typically southern in every way, except they have pulled their head out of their ass and don't agree with full right wing agenda. Term maybe claimed proudly or used as an insult.

"I'm a Dixiecrat. I like democratic views but wanna keep my guns." "Don't be fooled. She likes fishin' and'll drink sweet tea all day, but if Michelle Obama ran for office - that girl'd vote for her. She's a Dixiecrat."

Neo-dixiecrat

The new type of dixiecrat (old-time racist democrats who were often members of the KKK) who try to sound as if they feel sorry for people of other ethnicities, but end up simply repeating the words of the KKK and white supremacists in nicer fashion.

The neo-dixiecrat told us that showing up to work on time and getting good grades were white privilege, a sneaky way of saying they believed people of color are lazy and stupid.
