a) (short for Habitans): a term refering to French Canadians of both Upper Canada as well as Lower Canada. This is synonymous with calling an American 'a Yankee' or a Canadian (from outside Quebec) 'a Canuck', but is much less offensive.
b) a term of endearment refering to the Montreal Canadians hockey club.
father: son, what's your latest school project on ?
son: Dad, my project's thesis is trying to explain why the Montreal Canadians hockey team is alternatively and dearly referred to as the Habs. you can, lol, read the rest of my written paper when I'm done with it.

The most annoying and pointless team in the NHL. Fans of this team tend to focus more on their hatred towards the Toronto Maple Leafs rather than supporting their own team and constantly boo their own players out of the city when they have a few bad games.
The habs are notorious for signing good players and somehow turning them into terrible hockey players until they are traded to the Colorado Avalanche, ie. Patrick Roy, and soon to be, Carey Price.

Used to imply a homosexual prescence in the teams locker room.

Man #2: Well it seems the Habs are really going at it. The goaltender is catching cum shots and the captain is rimming the coach. This really is characteristic of this team.
